Technology
Oral health is rooted in the oral microbiome - the unique makeup of bacteria, fungi and viruses that live in your mouth! Some of these microbes are helpful, while others are harmful and cause conditions like bad breath, cavities and gum disease.
Bristle identifies and measures your oral microbiome from a single saliva sample, providing insight into your oral health and the root-cause of symptoms.
What to expect
Week 1
Your Oral Health Tests will arrive 2-4 days after we receive your order
Collect your first sample (which only takes 2min!) then send it back to our lab in the prepaid envelope.
Week 2 & 3
Your sample arrives at the lab and analysis begins! We’ll keep you in the loop with status updates for each step of the process.
Your results will be ready about 2 weeks after our lab receives your sample.
Week 4
When your results are ready, you will schedule your first coaching session! We can usually schedule your appointment within a week of receiving your results.
Your coach will review your health history, oral microbiome results and your specific goals before you meet.
You’ll get an email summary + resources, guides and helpful information.
Weeks 5 - 16
You will be improving your oral health through the Reset Program!
You can reach out to your coach anytime with questions - we'll also check in along the way to measure your progress and make sure things are improving.
Week 17 & 18
Time for your second test!
Once your results are ready, you'll book your second coaching session. We will review your progress and provide important insights. You will receive a debrief of your improvement and a new regimen focused on maintaining oral health!

What does the Bristle test look for?
Bristle profiles your complete oral microbiome - the makeup of 700+ bacteria and fungi in your mouth. Our test is the most comprehensive available and identifies all microbes present in your oral microbiome.
Some of these species are beneficial to our health, while others are harmful and can cause conditions like halitosis, tooth decay, gum inflammation, and more. By analyzing the identity and relative abundance of microbes in your saliva, Bristle detects the root cause of oral symptoms and connections to other chronic conditions. We also provide scientifically-backed product, diet, and lifestyle recommendations based on your unique oral microbiome.
How many microbes does Bristle detect?
We offer the most advanced and comprehensive oral microbiome test available. On average we identify 100+ bacterial species per sample. Bristle is also the only test that detects bacteria, fungi and viruses from a single saliva sample.
Can I share my results with my dentist?
Yes! We encourage you to share your results with your dentist and anyone else involved with your health. You can print or share your results directly from your account.
Can I use HSA/FSA for payment?
Bristle tests are eligible for reimbursement by most FSA and HSA plans. Since every plan is different, we advise that you check with your plan to confirm that the Bristle test is eligible. Contact us at support@bristlehealth.com to obtain an itemized receipt.
When will I receive my test?
Orders ship within 1-2 days from purchase, and shipping usually takes 3-5 business days for delivery. We will provide you with updates on your order via email and you can track the shipment in your dashboard by clicking on the "My Orders" tab.
Is Bristle CLIA compliant?
Yes! Bristle tests are analyzed in a U.S. laboratory that is certified by CLIA standards. A CLIA certified lab must meet strict quality standards and ensure both the accuracy and validity of your results.
